Travel Clinic

A travel clinic was established at the practice in 2005, by Dr Cherry Biden. The Clinic is licensed by the Department of Health to purchase and administer Yellow Fever Vaccine, which is required for travel to many tropical and subtropical countries in Africa and South America (see map), where yellow fever is a risk. It is also a requirement for travel to Saudi Arabia, on Haj and Umrah. A Certificate course in Travel medicine is a requirement to obtain a yellow fever licence, and Dr Morris obtained the certificate through the University of Witwatersrand in 2017.

Travel Clinic services include:

  • Advise on medical aspects of travel, including minimizing risks of infections, deep vein thrombosis, traveler’s diarrhoea, malaria, infectious diseases, common travelling illnesses
  • Fitness to travel, medicines to travel with, vaccinations required

Yellow fever vaccine is kept in stock, and other vaccines can be obtained within 24-48 hours as required.
Vaccines requested for Haj, Umrah and various visas are also given.

Dr Morris is a member of SASTM (South African Society of Travel Medicine) and receives regular e-mail updates on travel related health issues. Information of interest and relevant to general travelling policies will be posted under “Travel Medical News” on our website.
