Dr Karin Volker (Morris)


Dr Karin Volker (Morris) assists Dr Morris on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. She is otherwise involved at GJ Crookes Hospital, principally as facilitator of the training of B Med students (Clinical Associates) from University of Pretoria, as well as assisting at the psychiatry clinic of the hospital.

On two days a months she visits Lily of the Valley Children’s Home near Eston to provide medical services to the children and staff of the home. This forms part of the community outreach programme of the practice.

Karin qualified at Wits University in 1983. In 1985 – 1986 she did a Vocational Training rotation for Family Medicine at Edendale Hospital and Emmaus Hospital. She stayed on at Emmaus Hospital and later at Oliviershoek clinic where she facilitated the development of a Community Based Rehabilitation project in the Okhahlamba district and Ladysmith region. She completed her Masters in Family Medicine through MEDUNSA.

After moving to Pennington she worked at GJ Crookes Hospital and started the HIV and later ARV clinic in 2003/4 She worked in the clinic until 2012. During this time she did her Diploma in HIV and ARV medicine through UKZN and assisted some community projects to provide HIV related services, such as home based care to communities.

From 2013 to 2017 she worked at Lily of the Valley Children’s home, providing medical services for the children and staff of the home and continues this services twice a month now as part of community outreach service by the practice.

Her activities outside of work include church music and teaching of catechism, elder care, cooking and baking, cycling and walking.
